THE RIVA STUDIO

The Beginning

A few years ago I was thinking about getting back into the skincare world and so much has changed since I dabbled in it only just a few years back but the call was too strong to say no.

Well I do hope the first blog is the hardest cause this is not fun yet. I’m not a writer and definitely not a poet, so don’t be here looking for any fancy words.  Over the past year I’ve wondered what I would even say as the Aquarian rebel who wanted to say enough but not wanting to scare you all away.  Not needing to be the next guru with the magical words and stating the obvious like be the change.

I doubt there is a new ground breaking message but I do want to at least be supportive in introducing a new way of thinking when purchasing and little bit of knowledge up our sleeves won’t go astray and hopefully pop into our heads before we buy the next plastic fad.

A few years ago I was thinking about getting back into the skincare world and so much has changed since I dabbled in it only just a few years back but the call was too strong to say no.  I had worked for a few manufacturers which I always considered to be training schools and used the opportunity to learn as much as I could and all the do’s and don’t’s and the little tricks most people aren’t aware of.

Quietly, I played around with an assortment of ideas but they never took hold and then one day a client asked me to work on a recycling social media campaign for them.  I never thought much about it and then thankfully realised it was a right place, right time scenario.  I put my research hat on and was shocked by the landfill images I came across, the statistics about fast fashion, plastic, microplastics and water wasted globally.

Now I had to rethink my skincare range again.

I always knew there would be a recycling element to it but after looking at my ideas I realised I would also be part of the problem and I didn’t want to contribute to these numbers.

Carla Riva - The Beginning

When only 10% of plastic is recycled, irrelevant if its using recycled plastic, it’s unlikely it will recycled again and our planet takes another hit.

I did look at glass options but breakages were a concern it would need to be a plastic lid, and that  idea faded.  Funnily I did look at aluminium packaging and found my vision board of ideas and started moving forward.  The formula landed in my lap pretty quickly.  I must say I didn’t want to be perfectionist and have treated the project as a work in progress. If something doesn’t work we’ll change it on the next run.  Even the design was pretty quick.  The first draft came in quickly, we changed the font an voila’ we’re done.  Having worked on previous designs it’s almost unheard of

The one big thank you I do have to put out is Sabine my bff and my graphic designer who has tolerated me for years anyway but helping me out with this project and listening to all of the tiny dramas that were irrelevant days later is the friend we all need.  I’m so grateful, this could never have happened without her, she’s been a true godsend.

I also have to mention Cuba, Mark, Michelle and Paul who came on the journey and stayed.  They have been amazing support right from the start.

I’m keeping the space fairly open about what I will say in.  There will be some skincare, some recycling stuff, and maybe a few tips.  It will be a safe space for all of us with a goal in mind and that taking small steps we create less waste

Welcome to the CR journey, jump on, I hope you can stay for a little while.

Tlll next time
